New ‘Glitter Roots’ Hair Trend Isn’t for Wallflowers
Grab the glitter from your crafting stash, friends, because there’s a new spot to sprinkle those sparkles: on your head.
Rather than covering up their roots, some bold hair innovators (including celebs like Miley Cyrus and Lucy Hale) are mixing globs of hair gel and glitter to highlight them. And not just a dash of glitter but lots of glitter. That’s right, a jar of sparkles might be the cool new way you can skip a salon visit or stretch the time between coloring appointments. It’s the prettiest dandruff ever, amiright?
Sheesh, we still weren’t quite over the hair tattooing craze started by Kylie Jenner the other week!
While glitter roots aren’t for wallflowers (or that office meeting, maybe), it’s not a look reserved solely for ’90s Halloween parties or over-the-top ice skater costumes either — simply because of the precision of the application. Most glitter-headed gals are only spreading the sparkle an inch or so away from their roots, rather than blinging out their entire heads. And there’s something about it that looks, well … pretty dang cool.
To create the look, mix a chunky type of glitter with a clear hair gel and paint it on with a sturdy paintbrush, blending it about an inch out from your roots. To remove it from pretty much everywhere, follow this handy guide.
So maybe it’s not an everyday office hairstyle, but for all those upcoming holiday parties? Heck, yes, we’d consider glittering up our heads. Or perhaps for queuing up for the upcoming Star Wars movie? We’d add some craft store stars to that one!
