Grass fire halts eastbound I-40 near Brinkley
MONROE COUNTY, Ark. – A grass fire in eastern Arkansas has stopped traffic on Interstate 40 Monday afternoon.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation reported the fire shortly after 4:30 p.m. near Exit 216, just north of Brinkley.
Smoke from the fire could be seen on the ARDOT iDriveArkansas cameras blanketing the roadway, dramatically reducing visibility.
As of 4:50 p.m., all eastbound lanes of I-40 were closed due to the smoke.
Fire crews have responded to the scene to attempt to put out the blaze.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
