Greater Binghamton Airport upgrades: What additional $3 million will be used for
An additional $3 million in federal funding has been allocated for upgrades at the Greater Binghamton Airport.
“These funds will allow Binghamton Airport to complete construction and renovations," U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro said in a statement. "I’m proud to secure this crucial funding so passengers enjoy their experience, and the airport can continue upgrading its systems.”
The Greater Binghamton Airport was a part of the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition which awarded the airport with $32 million last year.
Where is funding coming from?
Funding is coming from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Airport Terminal Program where Molinaro is a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
Mark Heefner, the airport's commissioner of aviation, said the awarded funds will be put to good use.

"We are thrilled to receive these competitive funds. BGM and Broome County has a proven track record of putting these funds to good use with high return on investment," he said in a statement. "These funds are critical to providing our community with services for years to come."
Renovations, which began in January, are expected to be finished in 2025.
How will these funds be used?
Expansion of passenger hold room
New HVAC equipment with reliable and energy efficient units
Two new passenger boarding bridges
Extension of exterior canopy
"The award of these funds shows our strong partnership with our state and federal officials." Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said in a statement. "It puts on full display the importance and impact of this project in our community."
