The thefts occurred in June 2023. According to a criminal complaint, a deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the assisted living facility on June 6, after a report of cash and items stolen from residents’ rooms. The next day, a similar complaint was made involving a missing tablet, and another resident later reported a tablet stolen.
One of the tablets was returned to its owner’s room, but a staff member later found a tablet in Batten’s bag. Authorities questioned Batten, who admitted to taking three tablets and approximately $1,000 from residents over a four-week period.
