Guadalupe mayor and 3 council members face no challengers

The small East Valley town of Guadalupe will see no newcomers to city leadership, as its mayor and three council members run unopposed in the July election.

Guadalupe is a town smaller than 1 square mile nestled between Tempe and Chandler and has about 5,300 residents. A large majority of those residents are members of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

Mayor Valeria Molina was first elected in 2016 and is seeking her fifth term. The mayor's terms last two years and council members serve four-year terms.

Councilmembers Anita Cota Soto, Elvira Osuna and Ricardo C. Vital all filed nomination paperwork to run for another term. The three council members were all first elected to the Town Council in 2016.

The Arizona Republic sent Molina and the three council members its candidate questionnaire on topics such as town budget issues, election integrity and their priorities.

None responded.

Early voting began July 3. Maricopa County voters can check on the status of their mailed-in ballot on Maricopa County’s website at https://elections.maricopa.gov/voting/voter-dashboard-login. Those who choose to vote by mail are advised to mail their ballot by July 23 or drop it off at a ballot drop-off location or voting location by July 30.
