HAMMOND, La. (WGNO) — A Hammond 3-year-old died from an “accidental” self-inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday, July 17.

A parent attempted to save him by performing life-saving measures, and while those measures were continued once first responders arrived, the child ultimately wasn’t saved.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The TPSO wishes to emphasize the importance of gun safety, specifically securing guns in a location that children cannot easily access such as lock boxes or gun safes. Additionally, they advise the public to consider using trigger locks on all weapons.
