NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KLAS) — Just a handful of votes separated two candidates for a North Las Vegas City Council seat as of Tuesday — a repeat from their June primary, according to the latest totals from Clark County.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Robert “Twixx” Taylor was leading Councilwoman Ruth Garcia-Anderson by 35 votes. The difference between the two candidates was 0.18%.

Garcia-Anderson and Taylor advanced to the November election after the June primary because neither candidate achieved a majority in a three-way race. Taylor beat Garcia-Anderson by 38 votes. The top two candidates advanced to the general election.

The North Las Vegas City Council appointed Garcia-Anderson to her seat in December 2022. Current Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown held the seat before she was elected mayor.

Nevada state law requires all mail-in ballots to be mailed and postmarked by Election Day. There is then a four-day period after Election Day when county clerks can accept the postmarked ballots and process them.

Tuesday was the last day mail-in voters whose ballots had a signature issue could verify their identities for their votes to count.

Nevada is one of several states that have universal mail balloting. Voters can choose to vote in person or by mail early or in person on Election Day. Registered voters can also opt out of receiving a mail-in ballot if they wish.

In 2020, now-Republican Nevada Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony lost the Clark County Commission District C race to Democrat Ross Miller by just 15 votes. The final margin of victory changed from 10 votes to 30 votes, and then 15 votes, as a recount proceeded. Miller did not run for re-election.

Clark County was scheduled to canvass the election results on Friday.
