Harris-Trump support virtually split by gender: Poll

A survey released Sunday found support for Vice President Harris and former President Trump is split by gender.

Harris earns 55 percent of her support from women, while Trump earns 54 percent of his from men, a CBS News/YouGov survey found.

Men who say efforts to promote gender equality in the country are going too far tend to support Trump. Women who say they aren’t going far enough support Harris overwhelmingly.

Fifty-one percent of women think Harris has the mental and cognitive health to serve as president, while just 41 percent of men say the same, the survey found.

Men are less likely than women to think Harris will be a strong leader; 55 percent of women think she will be a strong leader, and 44 percent of men say the same. Sixty-four percent of men say Trump would make a strong leader.

While it’s not the most prominent issue this election for voters, more than half of respondents said abortion is a major factor in their vote.

The results highlight the fact that the presidential race will be close — with less than two weeks until Election Day, Harris and Trump are locked in a dead heat.

According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Harris has a 0.7 percentage point lead over Trump, with 48.6 percent to his 47.9 percent.

The CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted Oct. 23-25 among 2,161 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points.
