Heartstopper shares first look at Michael Holden

Heartstopper has shared the first look at Michael Holden in a brand-new clip from season 3.

The beloved character from the novel is joining the Netflix adaptation in the upcoming batch of episodes, with Darragh Hand playing him.

In the clip shared on social media, he's introduced as Tori's love interest. He seems quite sweet and sensitive, if a bit odd, offering Charlie a small cat figure he found in a charity shop.

"He just had your energy," Michael says, "so I figured he belonged with you. Also, it made me sad seeing him sitting on a shelf on his own."

There's quite a few new characters joining the show for its third season, including Charlie and Tori's cousin Oliver (who is their younger brother in the original graphic novels), played by Jensen Clayden.

Hayley Atwell plays Aunt Diane, who takes Nick on a summer holiday to Menorca and gives him some tough advice about his relationship.

Back to Black's Eddie Marsan is playing Geoff, Charlie's wise and straight-talking therapist, while Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey is making a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist who Charlie happens to have a major crush on.

Explaining the tone of season 3, creator Alice Oseman said: "Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie's mental health issues, and it's this that will drive the story through season 3.

"While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I'm really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up.

"Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood."

Heartstopper seasons 1-2 are streaming on Netflix. Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on October 3.
