Northeast to feel the scorch of summer’s first big heat
The first significant heat wave of the summer already has "extreme" heat advisories forecast throughout the tri-state area.
The dangerous temperatures are expected to last all week; Philadelphia could see excessive temps for eight days.
AccuWeather warns at least 135 million people across the eastern United States and parts of eastern Canada will face dangerous temperatures nearing 100 degrees.
The National Weather Service reports the record-breaking heat is expected to hit widespread daily high temperatures and possibly set some new June records from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, with local indices approaching 105 degrees.
According to messages from the NWS, "The longevity of dangerous heat forecasted for some locations has not been experienced in decades."
Heat advisories are in effect through June 19 with excessive heat watches in place later this week across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
