Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland hit the road in the trailer for 'The Leisure Seeker' (exclusive)
We’re cruising 75 mph toward awards season, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a screen duo as accomplished as the two leads of The Leisure Seeker (watch the exclusive trailer above).
Oscar winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) and screen vet Donald Sutherland (who will soon be awarded an honorary Oscar) team up to play Ella and John, a married couple who set off on one last cross-country road trip in their “old rust bucket” that they’ve given the titular nickname.
Ella plots to take her aging, Hemingway-loving husband, John, whose memory is fading fast, to Key West to explore the author’s old homestead and haunts. Along the way, though, they’ll brave motorcycles, slideshows, and a pair of two-bit crooks who have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into.
Based on the bestselling novel by Michael Zadoorian, The Leisure Seeker is directed by Paolo Virzi (Like Crazy, Human Capital) from a script he adapted with Stephen Amidon, Francesca Archibugi, and Francesco Piccolo.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and opens in theaters Jan. 19, 2018.
