BROCKTON ? A doctor who has treated patients at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton for 17 years — starting before Steward Health Care existed — said staffing and supply shortages have hit rock bottom.

Man drowns after canoe capsized on East Lake in Halifax

A man drowned on Mother's Day following a canoe accident in Halifax, officials said. Halifax police received a 911 call about 10:58 a.m. for a report of a capsized canoe with several people in the water near the boat ramp at 47 White Island Road. "Upon arrival, Halifax Police and Fire located three individuals, including one adult and two children, who had exited the water safely," said Beth Stone, a spokesperson for Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz. "A second adult was reported missing below the water’s surface."

'Couldn't be worse than it is right now': Doctor gives inside look at Good Sam in Brockton

A doctor who has treated patients at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton for 17 years — starting before Steward Health Care existed — said staffing and supply shortages have hit rock bottom. "It couldn't be worse than it is now," said the unnamed physician. The Enterprise agreed not to use his name or specialty because he was concerned Steward could see his comments as a violation of its employee code of conduct. The doctor plans to leave this summer for a non-Steward-owned facility.

Should homeless people be allowed to camp out in D.W. Field Park in Brockton

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end of June in a case that will affect the way cities across the United States are able to regulate homeless encampments — including Brockton. On April 22, the justices heard oral arguments in an Oregon case on whether the enforcement of laws banning homeless people from sleeping on public property constitutes cruel and unusual punishment, which is prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. Current precedent prevents cities from enforcing criminal restrictions on public camping unless the person has access to adequate temporary shelter.

Teen in custody after armed robbery in Randolph, second suspect still on the run

An 18-year-old Malden man was taken into custody by Randolph police in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Monday, Chief Anthony Marag said in a written statement. The man allegedly stole jewelry and a cellphone from the victim, they said. Police are still searching for the second suspect, who they say fled on foot in the area of the town dump, which abuts Route 24.
