Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen, located at 175 S. Nova Road, Suite 1, in Ormond Beach, closed quite suddenly earlier this month, after having just opened in early February.

Concerned customers took to social media to express their confusion, after being met with a sign that read “Sorry, we’re closed permanently. Thank you,” taped to the restaurant’s front door.

“Does anyone know what happened to Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen at Granada and Nova?” one user posted in a local Facebook group. “I literally just saw them posting on Facebook … and now their page is gone, the website is unavailable, and the restaurant has a sign about being closed!”

“Holy crap! We love them," another user chimed in. "Their sauce is fantastic. We dined their once a week. We were just there this past week for a sitdown/waited on meal.”

Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen is noted as “permanently closed” on Google, while its website and social media pages can no longer be found. Owner Phil Martin confirmed the restaurant's closure via text message to The News-Journal on Thursday afternoon, further stating "we love Ormond Beach and are saddened to leave."

He did not wish to comment on further details surrounding the closure.

What was Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen?

Cavatelli Pasta Kitchen opened as a fast-casual, Italian-American restaurant earlier this year, priding itself on its fresh, house-made pasta, meatballs, sauces and more. The eatery offered “Panera-style” quick counter service, until recently transitioning to a full-service restaurant in the weeks leading up to its closure.

“I believe that the small independent restaurants of the future will be ones that can serve exceptional quality food, but also in a more practical and possibly more limited-service environment,” Martin previously told The News-Journal. “So, our goal at Cavatelli is to bridge the gap between fast-casual restaurants and limited-service footprints, but with high-quality food. I like to say that my goal is the be the Chipotle of pasta.”

The restaurant, located within The Nova Shoppes plaza on Ormond’s South Nova Road, offered well-portioned pasta plates with a medley of homemade sauce, pasta, meat and cheese combos, alongside an assortment of paninis, salads and locally sourced desserts.
