House fire in Buffalo displaces 5 adults, 13 children

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Five adults and 13 children have been displaced by a house fire that occurred Wednesday in Buffalo, city officials announced.

Fire crews responded to the fire just after 5 p.m. at 241 Hazelwood Avenue. Officials said the fire originated on the first floor and extended to the second floor before it was brought under control.

Firefighters rescued two children from the home, including an 8-year-old boy who was transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, officials said. His condition is non-life threatening.

One firefighter was transported to ECMC for sustaining a shoulder injury while responding to the fire.

According to authorities, the fire caused estimated damages of $175,000 to the property and $100,000 to the house’s contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The five adults and 13 children are being assisted by the Red Cross.
