House fire in Wisconsin kills two as over 20 agencies respond to the scene
SPRING PRAIRIE, Wis. (WFRV) – Despite life-saving measures, a house fire on Saturday evening resulted in the deaths of a man and woman in Wisconsin.
According to a release, on Oct. 5, 2024, at around 5:30 p.m., the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a house on fire on Highway 11 in Spring Prairie.

Upon arrival, deputies observed the residence’s second floor fully engulfed in flames. Bystanders stated they were unsure if anyone was in the residence.
Deputies entered the first floor but did not find anyone, and they could not get to the second story because the top of the stairs was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the Lyons Fire Department continued to search for anyone inside. After knocking down some of the flames, they found two people in the second-floor apartment.
Firefighters immediately removed them from the burning building, and life-saving measures were rendered. Despite their best efforts, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters continued to fight the fire, and at around 8:30 p.m., it was deemed under control. The last fire units cleared the scene at 1:05 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2024.
One firefighter was treated on the scene by emergency medical services for minor injuries and was released without transport. The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims as 58-year-old Bradly Chapman and 83-year-old Sylvia Chapman.

They include the Rochester Volunteer Company, Town of Burlington Fire Department, Lake Geneva Fire Department, Vernon Fire Department, Western Lakes Fire Department, Salem Lakes Fire Department, Village of Waukesha Fire Department, Tess Corners Fire Department, Somers Fire Department, Walworth Fire Department, Big Bend Fire Department, Paris Fire Department, Spring Grove Fire Department, Twin Lakes Fire Department, Whitewater Fire Department, Walworth MD-1, Elkhorn Fire Department, Troy Center Fire Department, East Troy Fire Department, Mukwonago Fire Department, Racine Fire Bells, Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office, and WE Energies.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office and the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating this incident.
