A messy Thanksgiving travel week
Multiple storm systems are expected to slam the U.S. with rain and snow this week as millions of Americans prepare to travel for Thanksgiving. Here’s what to know.
The forecast: Early this week, rain and heavy mountain snow are predicted in parts of the West. Another system with a wintry mix is expected to move toward the Northeast from the Midwest just before a bigger winter storm hits the Northeast on Thursday. [Fox Weather]
Record travel: The forecast may complicate plans, as more than 80 million Americans are expected to travel between tomorrow and next Monday. The TSA said it’s preparing for “the busiest Thanksgiving ever in terms of air travel.” [AP]
When to leave: Experts said the worst time to hit the road will be tomorrow and Wednesday afternoon, and that leaving on Thanksgiving Day may be best to avoid crowds. Here are the best days and times to head out and come back. [Travel+Leisure]

3 QUESTIONS
...about the “deadline rush” at work
Headed into Thanksgiving, Yahoo Creator Sean Kernan gave my hardworking editor Anthony permission to take it easy at work. Here’s why.
Anthony: Why do so many people feel like work is the busiest just before they take time off?
Sean: It’s the so-called deadline rush. Many people think that clearing the deck will prevent work from intruding on their vacation. It’s really about control and the desire to will work away completely while gone. In reality, your work isn’t going away while you’re gone.
Anthony: What’s your argument for going a little easier before then?
Sean: I’d say that overworking before a vacation reinforces the mentality that work supersedes life. It’s been proven that even if you need to delay some tasks, it won’t necessarily negatively impact your performance review — so long as you show that you’re a self-motivated, careful worker.
Anthony: What can people do to avoid the rush — and also wind down on break?
Sean: If you’re taking a vacation in the next month, don’t let it turn into a mad dash. Get things done early, and once you’re on vacation, give yourself at least a 48-hour window when you don’t check your email or think about work. I call that Operation Zero.
One more thing: Try paying it forward for an extra boost of happiness this week. And subscribe to Sean’s newsletter.
FEEL-GOOD MOMENT
A Chicago man who goes by the name Big Money D (and looks quite a bit like Danny Trejo) decided to play the lottery using numbers honoring his late wife, and was shocked when he won the $650,000 prize. “When I won, it felt like it was a message from her,” he said. [People]
Remember that banana art? The guy who spent $6.2 million on it is planning to eat it. With that, have a good day!
?? P.S. Before you go, your daily advice: Making an apple pie for Thanksgiving? Take it up a notch with miso. Here’s why it’s a flavor boost. [Simply Recipes]
