Investment broker pleads guilty for stealing over $150K from clients
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A former investment broker has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150,000 from two clients last year, the Erie County District Attorney’s office said Tuesday.
52-year-old Damian Baird, of Clarence, admitted to stealing a total of $153,503 across four accounts belonging to two clients between Feb. 3 and March 15, 2023. Baird deposited the checks into his personal bank account instead of their investment account. Both of the clients are located in Erie County.
It was discovered after one of the clients filed a dispute after receiving a notice that their investment account had not been funded and the check had been altered to be payable to Baird.
Baird pleaded guilty to four counts of third-degree grand larceny. He faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced on June 12. As part of the plea, he agreed to pay full restitution.
