NEED TO KNOW
The Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire
Displaced families in Lebanon began returning home today after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah went into effect.
The deal: The agreement ends fighting between the two groups for 60 days. Hezbollah will retreat from the Lebanon-Israel border, and Israel will withdraw from Lebanon. President Biden said the deal was “designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.” [NBC News]
The war’s toll: Nearly 1.2 million people in Lebanon and tens of thousands of Israelis have been displaced from nearly 14 months of fighting on the border, while over 3,760 people — many of them civilians — have been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon. [AP]
In Gaza: The ceasefire deal won’t apply in Gaza. While announcing the deal yesterday, Biden said the U.S. would make another “push” for a ceasefire there in the coming days. Hamas has said it’s “committed to cooperating” with any such effort. [ABC News/Reuters]

3 QUESTIONS
...about Black Friday sales
Yahoo shopping curator Zainab Akande, who writes The Checkout newsletter, stopped by to talk about the Black Friday deals she's eyeing.
Jessica: What’s your strategy around getting the most Black Friday savings?
Zainab: My tip for saving the most money during Black Friday is boring, but tried and true: Do your research. Look for promo codes and coupons to stack on top of discounts, and compare prices. With that said, we’ve already done the work! Here’s a long list of the best deals.
Jessica: What early deals do you have your eye on?
Zainab: There are so many! This Lego Advent calendar is super popular and under $35, and if you need a Christmas tree, this one is $55. Plus, Apple AirTags are great for tracking checked luggage during the holidays, and this set of four is $73 — a rare discount.
Jessica: Are there any big-ticket items on sale that are worth the splurge?
Zainab: For sure. Le Creuset’s famous Dutch oven is selling for $280 — that’s $150 off. You can also save more than $2,000 on an 85-inch Samsung smart TV and, if you’re in the market for a new mattress, this queen-sized hybrid from Casper is over $500 off.
