J.C. Seneca elected president of Seneca Nation
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After capturing 87% of the popular vote, J.C. Seneca defeated Mike General and was elected president of the Seneca Nation on Tuesday.
“I have spent the last four months traveling throughout the Seneca Nation Territories meeting with people and talking about the issues,” Seneca said in a release. “With tonight’s election, it is my goal to take all I have learned in that time and blend it into my platform of ‘unifying the Seneca People.’ That is the only way we will bring members of the Seneca Nation together as a community and as a nation; address the many issues we face, and find solutions that will work for all of us.”
First elected to the Seneca Nation Council in 1990 and having held office as treasurer and councilor, Seneca follows in the footsteps of his father William, who was president in 1968. He was also elected as northeast area vice president for the National Congress of American Indians in 1991.
