Jack Maynard apologises to fans over 'horrible' tweets after departing I'm A Celebrity

He left the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp earlier this week after homophobic and racist tweets he sent several years ago came to light.

But Jack Maynard has now said sorry to his fans for the “horrible” and “stupid” messages, admitting he is “ashamed” of his actions.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Jack said: “I’m sorry to anyone that I upset, anyone that I offended, anyone I made feel uncomfortable.

“Growing up I was all over social, my entire life was on social media and through that it led to be my job.

“I’ve tweeted some bad things, some horrible things, that I’m just ashamed of.

“I never wanted to make anything like this, I feel like I’ve let you guys down so much, I was young, I was stupid, I was careless I just wasn’t thinking.

“This was back when I just left school and I don’t know what I was thinking. I was stupid, I said some really inconsiderate things.”

Jack Maynard departed I’m A Celebrity after just three days in the jungle.

The 23-year-old vlogger is also said to be facing claims he allegedly sent “inappropriate” messages to a 14-year-old girl when he was 17, according to the Daily Mirror, but didn’t mention this in the video.

Jack – whose brother is singer Conor Maynard – was visibly emotional on the clip, admitted he was “embarrassed” by what he had written in the tweets, and urged his supporters not to make the “same mistakes”.

He said: “Growing up online is hard and I just beg that you don’t make the same mistakes as I did.

“I was young back then, I had nothing, I wasn’t doing anything, and that’s not an excuse whatsoever.

“I’m so gutted and I’m embarrassed, I’m so embarrassed that all of this has happened now.

“You’ve constantly had my back. The support I’ve seen online from all of you is so overwhelming, so I want to thank you all for that.”

Jack’s agent made the decision to pull him out of the show this week to give him the opportunity to respond to “allegations”, after a number of tweets posted online five years ago containing racist remarks resurfaced.

A spokesperson previously explained in a statement: “In the last few days Jack has been the subject of a succession of media stories which, given his position as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here – filmed in the Australian jungle, with no contact with the outside world, he has been unable to respond to.

“Since it is only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations made against them and should also have the right to defend themselves, it was agreed that it would be better to bring him out of the show.

“Jack agrees with this decision which was made by his representatives and ITV and thanks everyone who has supported him in the show this far.”

In one post made back in June 2011, he said he was “at alices with my n****s!” and he also repeatedly called people “retards”.

A spokeswoman for the vlogger told The Sun Online: “Jack is ashamed of these tweets, many were deleted a long time ago.

“He would never use that language now and realises this kind of retaliatory, inflammatory, insulting language is completely unacceptable.”
