James Buckley says White Gold is a "grown-up" Inbetweeners
James Buckley has described BBC Two's White Gold as a "more grown-up" version of The Inbetweeners.
The actor appeared on Sunday Brunch today (March 3) to talk about the show's upcoming second season – airing this week – and naturally ended up comparing the comedy to The Inbetweeners.
Speaking to hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, Buckley said: "I hope people will watch White Gold, because it feels like… it’s got so many of us still involved from The Inbetweeners, and like I said, me and Joe are basically the same character.
“But also, I describe it as slightly more grown-up – ever so slightly. But, you know, it’s more story-driven.
"When we were making The Inbetweeners, we needed a joke every 30 seconds, whereas this is more story-driven. So, it still feels like The Inbetweeners, but hopefully different enough to keep people interested.”
The series, which is set in the 1980s, stars Buckley and fellow Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas as double glazing salesmen. The second season previously saw production halted for around a year after allegations of sexual assault were made against co-star Ed Westwick, which Westwick denied.
The Inbetweeners' Damon Beesley also created the show.
White Gold series 2 will premiere on Wednesday, March 6 at 10pm on BBC Two and will run for six episodes.
