Radio presenter Jamie Theakston has shared that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Theakston, who co-hosts Heart Breakfast with Amanda Holden, shared the news on Instagram today (September 17), confirming that a biopsy on a recently-removed lesion from his vocal chords has identified stage 1 laryngeal cancer.

However, the broadcaster assured fans that the "prognosis is very positive", though he will be stepping away from Heart Radio until October to give his "voice a rest".

"So… I have cancer…but the cancer doesn’t have me! The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October," Theakston said.

"Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda.

"Huge thanks to them and all the Global Family who have been unbelievably supportive. Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell… Jamie x’

Meanwhile, Theakston's co-host Amanda Holden shared her support for him on her own Instagram page.
