Jemez Historic Site celebrating Pueblo Independence Day

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Jemez Historic Site is celebrating Pueblo Independence Day. The day commemorates the anniversary of the Pueblo Revolt in 1680 when Pueblo’s joined one another to rebel against Spanish colonizers.

On Saturday, August 11 the historic site is kicking off the celebration with an early morning 13-mile run from the plaza in Jemez Pueblo to the Jemez Historic Site. The run symbolizes the efforts made by the pueblo runners when organizing the revolt. Starting at 10 a.m. guests can tour Gisewa Pueblo, view traditional dances and shop for traditional arts and crafts from vendors. There will also be food trucks on site for guests to enjoy.
