The claim: Joe Biden resigned
A July 21 Instagram post (direct link, archive link) includes a screenshot of a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying “Joe Byeden.”
“Joe Biden just resigned,” reads the Instagram caption.
It was liked more than 1,000 times in a day.

President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race but did not resign from office. He said he intends to fulfill his term.
Biden endorsed VP Harris after leaving race
Biden announced he was dropping out of the presidential race in a letter posted to social media on July 21. The decision came after weeks of growing calls for Biden to do so after a widely panned debate performance against former President Donald Trump in June.
But though he left the race, Biden said he would remain in office.
His letter said the decision would allow him to “focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” which ends in January 2025.

Biden reiterated that sentiment in a follow-up X post that said he would “focus all my energies on my duties as president” through the end of his term.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders called for Biden to resign the presidency after his departure from the race was announced.
USA TODAY has previously debunked an array of claims about Biden, including false assertions that a video showed Biden talking about resigning as president in 2024 and that Biden resigned as president-elect in January 2021.
USA TODAY reached out to the user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
