Joe Biden is losing support among some Black voters ahead of 2024, survey shows

WASHINGTON —Though President Joe Biden won support from 92% of Black voters in the 2020 presidential election, that base could be shrinking ahead of the 2024 race for the White House, according to a new survey.

A survey from GenFoward released Tuesday found that if the presidential election were held today, 17% of Black voters said they would cast their ballot for former President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, 20% of Black voters polled said they would vote for someone else other than Trump or Biden, and 63% of the voters said they would support Biden.

Black voters are also split on whether Biden should run for president, with 50% saying he should "definitely" or "probably" seek another term, and 49 saying he "definitely" or "probably" shouldn't run.

The survey was conducted among 3,448 voters from Nov. 8 to 20 with a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. It was first reported by Politico.

Polling has repeatedly shown that age is one of Biden’s liabilities heading into 2024. Twenty-eight percent of Black voters said they were “very concerned” about Biden’s age, according to the Tuesday survey, while 25% said they were somewhat concerned. Additionally, twenty-five percent said they were a little concerned, and 23% said they were not at all concerned.

The GenForward poll isn't the first survey to show Biden losing some support among the crucial voting block.

A poll released in October by the New York Times/Siena College found Trump pulling a shocking 22% of support from Black voters in six key battleground states. Likewise, a September Yahoo News/YouGov poll found that 66% of Black voters would choose him if the 2024 election were held that month.
