John Boyega shares incredible video of him surprising his parents with a house: 'It belongs to you'
John Boyega has had a busy last few months.
The "Star Wars" actor starred in yet another billion-dollar edition of the sci-fi franchise, made a statement red carpet appearance in traditional Nigerian attire and went viral with a hilarious "love letter" addressed to his co-star, Oscar Isaac.
Now the 27-year-old is part of another viral moment, after sharing an Instagram video of the day he surprised his parents with a brand new house. The emotional exchange actually took place in 2017, but Boyega seemed to be feeling nostalgic for the incredible moment earlier this week.
"A few years ago this happened!" Boyega wrote on Instagram Tuesday. "Moments like these make all the hard work worth it."
In the clip, Boyega brings his parents into the large, modernist home for an "interview," telling them he wants to record himself asking them a few questions. But he quickly moves into a speech about how much their support has meant to him.
"On behalf of myself I'd like to say thank you for everything that you've done and I decided to do a secret project for a few months," the actor says, before going on to reveal his surprise.
"I'm here to tell you that there was no interview, that was a lie," Boyega says. "This is your house that I am presenting to you. This is your new house — it belongs to you."
Boyega's father immediately begins weeping, wiping his face with a tissue as his son grabs his shoulder.
"It's a small token, but I just thought its best that you live in an environment and a place where you're happy," Boyega tells his parents.
In a 2017 interview on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Boyega revealed that his mom had been given a heads up about the surprise, while his dad had no idea whatsoever.
"I just needed one of them to know so that if one of them had a heart attack, the other can take them to the hospital," the actor joked.
Boyega added that despite being in the loop, his mom managed to hide her knowledge pretty well.
"Mom is the backbone of the family — she's queen," he told Fallon. "She did the most Oscar-winning performance when [my dad] found out."
Boyega, who starred as Finn in the latest "Star Wars" trilogy, is next set to appear in the British mini-series "Small Axe," which is created by "12 Years A Slave" director Steve McQueen.
