Johnson County Sheriff’s Office urges people to stay off roads, shelter open in Mountain City

JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is asking the community to stay off the roads, and a shelter has been opened for those in need.

“As daylight has been breaking, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office along with Johnson County EMA are assessing damage that has occurred through the night as well as what is currently happening,” a news release from the sheriff’s office stated.

The JCSO asks people to avoid traveling if possible due to flooding. Highway 421 in Trade and Highway 321 are reportedly flooded.

A shelter is open for those in need at First Christian Church Life Center (401 West Main Street, Mountain City).

Emergency personnel are working diligently to make sure any residents that need rescuing are a priority, the JCSO stated.
