Josh Shapiro Pennsylvania’s most popular Governor at this point in term; poll

(WTHM) – Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is the most popular governor in recent memory more than a year into his term, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll.

The survey found 54% of registered Pennsylvania voters believe Shapiro has done an excellent or good job as Governor.

This Week in Pennsylvania

That rating is higher than Governors Tom Ridge, Tom Wolf, Ed Rendell, and Tom Corbett at this point in their first terms.

Governor Ridge had the highest approval rating during his tenure as Governor with more than 60% support three years into his term.

A majority of Democrats (83%) and Independents (57%) back the first term Democratic Governor while 29% of Republicans approve of his job performance.

Shapiro also outpaced fellow Democrats in job approval rating in Pennsylvania. President Joe Biden received a 35% approval rating, though only 27% of Independents and 7% of Republicans approve of his performance.

Amid his re-election campaign, Senator Bob Casey had a 39% approval rating but led his likely Republican challenger Dave McCormick 46% to 39% in a head-to-head matchup, according to the F&M poll. Both are running unopposed in the April 23 primary and 46% of voters said they did not know enough about McCormick.

Who’s running for Treasurer in Pennsylvania?

Forty-five percent of voters said they were “worse off” than a year ago with inflation the main source of frustration for voters. About half of Pennsylvania voters (49%) say the state is on the wrong track, but 39% say things are headed in the right direction.

The survey findings presented in this release are based on the results of interviews conducted March 20 – 31, 2024. The interviews were conducted at the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College. The data included in this release represent the responses of 870 registered Pennsylvania voters, including 390 Democrats, 356 Republicans, and 124 Independents.

The margin of error was +/-4%.
