Judge rejects pre-trial release appeal for former deputy accused of murdering Sonya Massey

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy charged with Sonya Massey’s murder was back in the court room Friday.

Sean Grayson appealed the decision to detain him pre-trial.

The judge did not grant it though, meaning Grayson will stay in custody at the Menard County Jail.

He does have one more avenue for appeal, though. Now that the Sangamon County judge has denied him, he can try going to the appellate court.

Grayson’s first hearing is scheduled for the end of this month. He is facing three charges of first-degree murder, but he has pleaded not guilty.
