Jury finds Amherst woman guilty in murder of newborn son
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Tuesday afternoon, a jury found an Amherst woman guilty of murdering her newborn child, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Mistrial declared in case of Tonawanda woman accused of killing newborn son
On October 5, 2020, now-32-year-old Andee Wright was alone when she gave birth in a bathroom in her previous residence on Eggert Road in Tonawanda. Officials said she did not call 911 for assistance for herself or the baby.
The newborn was found by paramedics deceased in a garbage can in the basement, according to the ECDA’s Office. Wright’s boyfriend had called 911 for her when she was found in “medical distress” later that morning and she was subsequently transported to the hospital.
The baby died from a traumatic brain injury caused by blunt force after being born alive, according to an investigation by the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Wright was found guilty by the jury of one count of second-degree murder.
She faces up to 25 years to life in prison when she is sentenced on September 9.
