Juvenile arrested, charged with making threat of mass harm against school districts

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A juvenile was arrested Tuesday and charged with making threats against the Lockport and Newfane school districts, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lockport city school district superintendent Dr. Mathis Calvin III wrote a letter to parents and guardians addressing threatening posts made on social media. “We take any concerns of this nature very seriously and are following our district’s code of conduct to guide our actions,” he said.

The juvenile’s arrest is the latest example of law enforcement prosecuting local students who make such threats, even when they’re unfounded.

Prior to her arrest, security at the schools had been increased and any movement between those schools for field trips was suspended.
