A juvenile has been charged with raping another juvenile on Rehoboth Beach in June, police announced Tuesday.

Officers were approached just after midnight June 19 in relation to a sexual assault that occurred on the beach in the area of Brooklyn Avenue, Rehoboth Beach Police Department spokesman Lt. Mark Sweet said. After the 15-year-old accuser spoke with police, they were taken to a hospital, treated and released, Sweet said.

The police investigation found the suspect was a 15-year-old Maryland juvenile who had left the area, according to Sweet. He also said the suspect and accuser "were unknown to each other prior to meeting that evening."

After establishing the suspect's identity, a warrant was obtained June 28, Sweet said, and the suspect "voluntarily" returned to Delaware to be arraigned in Sussex County Family Court on July 2.

The suspect was charged with second-degree and fourth-degree rape without consent, both felonies, and released after posting $20,000 secured bond. They have been ordered not to return to Delaware for any reason other than court appearances, Sweet said.
