Kamala Harris to campaign with running mate in Eau Claire next week
WASHINGTON – Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign with her running mate in Eau Claire next week as part of her first battleground state tour as Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee.
Harris and her future running mate, expected to be announced early next week, will travel to battleground states "to campaign to the voters who will decide this election," according to the Harris campaign. The campaign confirmed Harris will be in Eau Claire during the early afternoon next Wednesday.
A spokesman for the Harris campaign did not say where Harris and her vice presidential pick will stop in Eau Claire. But Harris is expected to hold her first rally with her running mate Tuesday in Philadelphia before heading to Wisconsin the next day. Following her appearance in Eau Claire, the campaign will head to Detroit later the same evening.
The expected visit to Wisconsin would be Harris' sixth stop in the state of 2024 and 10th since becoming vice president. Last week, she held her first campaign rally as Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee just outside Milwaukee. In a packed high school gym, Harris presented the contest against former President Donald Trump as a choice between "chaos" and "compassion.
The vice president last stopped in western Wisconsin in April, when she visited La Crosse to rally voters around health care access.
Harris' campaign as of Wednesday morning made no indication of who Harris would pick as her running mate. But top contenders for the job include Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Next week's swing state tour will begin in battleground Pennsylvania and, following the stop in western Wisconsin, will include a visit to Detroit later Wednesday, the Raleigh area on Thursday, Savannah and Phoenix on Friday and Las Vegas on Saturday. Reuters first reported on the planned tour.
