Kamala Harris’ Debuts Campaign Ad Soundtracked By Beyoncé’s “Freedom”
Vice President Kamala Harris has kicked off her bid for the presidency with a campaign ad powered by Beyoncé’s 2016 single, “Freedom.” Harris released her riveting ad on Thursday (July 25), with footage drawing a contrast between her and her opposition, former president Donald J. Trump.
The one-minute video evokes a feeling of triumph and community as shots of Black people, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and other minorities support Harris. VP Harris then lays out her promise to tackle gun violence, health issues, topics on abortion, poverty, and more. The Oakland, Calif., native even jabbed at Trump’s laundry list of legal troubles, including becoming the first former president to get his mugshot taken after he was arrested in the Georgia election subversion case.
Additional footage is taken from Kamala Harris’ first rally as a presidential candidate in Milwaukee on Tuesday (July 23). “In this election, we each face a question: What kind of country do we want to live in? There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos, of fear, of hate. But us? We choose something different. We choose freedom,” Harris is heard declaring in the TV spot.
“The freedom not just to get by, but get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body. We choose a future where no child lives in poverty, where we can all afford health care, and where no one is above the law. We believe in the promise of America, and we are ready to fight for it. Because when we fight, we win,” she declares.
A snippet from “Freedom” rounds out the campaign video with Beyoncé passionately calling for action in the song, declaring that she won’t quit on the path to freedom, singing, “I’ma keep running ’cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”
