Kamala Harris, Liz Cheney returning to Wisconsin Monday to pitch undecided voters
Vice President Kamala Harris is doubling down on her pitch to undecided Wisconsin Republican voters in the waning weeks of the presidential election.
Harris will campaign alongside former Republican U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, in Waukesha County on Monday as part of a series of "moderated conversations" in suburban counties in critical swing states, according to the Harris campaign.
Conservative talk show host Charlie Sykes, another Trump critic who recently endorsed Harris, will moderate the discussion between Harris and Cheney, a campaign official said. Sykes confirmed the news in a blog post, saying he will moderate the event in Brookfield.
The Harris campaign did not confirm the event's location.
The stop is one of three with anti-Trump Republicans to battleground states on Monday. Harris is scheduled to start the day in Pennsylvania, stop in Wisconsin and wrap up the day in Michigan, the campaign said.
The visit to Waukesha County is notable. Democrats have gained ground in the traditionally deep red suburban counties surrounding Milwaukee in recent years. Harris launched her presidential campaign in West Allis this summer, and her surrogates have fanned out across the Milwaukee suburbs in the months since.
"At the events, Harris and Cheney plan to warn about the risk of a second Trump term for America and lay out the Vice President’s agenda for a New Way Forward for the American people that focuses on their needs, not the division and chaos of Donald Trump," the campaign said.
This isn't the first time Cheney has joined Harris on the campaign trail. Earlier this month, Cheney campaigned with Harris in Ripon, known as the birthplace of the Republican Party.
"I have never voted for a Democrat, but this year, I am proudly casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," Cheney said at that campaign stop. "Vice President Harris is standing in the breach at a critical moment in our nation's history. She's working to unite reasonable people from all across the political spectrum."
Trump's campaign, meanwhile, has reportedly been considering having former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who ran against Trump in the GOP presidential primary, stump for the former president in the final weeks of the campaign.
Haley won about 14% of the vote — just over 9,000 votes — in Waukesha County in the GOP presidential primary in April.
Harris was last in Wisconsin this past Thursday, with stops in Milwaukee, La Crosse and Green Bay. Monday's visit will mark her seventh to Wisconsin as a presidential candidate. Her visit comes a day after a stop by Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, who is scheduled to be in Waukesha on Sunday.
