Who is Karoline Leavitt? New Hampshire GOP candidate could be among first Gen Z lawmakers
Former Trump aide Karoline Leavitt won the Republican primary for U.S. House in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday.
Leavitt could be one of the first members of Gen Z to serve in Congress if she wins the general election race in November.
Here is what you need to know about Leavitt.
Who is Karoline Leavitt?
Leavitt, 25, is a New Hampshire native. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in politics and communication from Saint Anselm College in 2019.
Prior to politics, Leavitt was a producer at WMUR-TV in Manchester, N.H., and associate producer at New Hampshire Chronicle. She was also an administrative assistant for Fox News Media, her LinkedIn profile says.
Leavitt was a presidential writer and an assistant press secretary for Kayleigh McEnany under the Trump administration.
Leavitt later became a director of communications for Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y.
New Hampshire election results
Leavitt defeated Matt Mowers 33, a former White House senior adviser and State Department official. She will challenge Rep. Chris Pappas in November.
"They said I was too young, we couldn’t raise the money to compete, and we could never beat a former Republican nominee," Leavitt said, referencing her critics during her victory speech Tuesday. "Tonight, Team Karoline, we smashed expectations. Tonight, Team Karoline, we defied the odds."
