Katy Perry & Dannii Minogue Tried To Warn Us About Russell Brand
Russell Brand is now facing multiple allegations of rape and sexual assault after investigations by The Times and Dispatches, but they may not come as a surprise to people who have been paying attention.
Old comments about the actor from both Dannii Minogue and Brand’s own ex-wife, Katy Perry, have been circulating in the wake of the accusations. And neither paint him in a good light.
Perry was a little more tight-lipped, which may have been related to the terms of her divorce, or because she was hinting at stories that weren’t hers to tell. At any rate, an interview she gave mentioning Brand in 2013 has led some people to believe she may have known something about the alleged assaults, which are said to have taken place between 2006 and 2013.
“I felt a lot of responsibility for [the marriage] ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day,” she told Vogue at the time.
She also suggested that he had a problem with her being his equal, and “the boss on tour,” adding that his attitude was “really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.”
Minogue was straightforward in her own 2006 comments to the Mirror about her appearance on his show, 1 Leicester Square.
“He is completely crazy and a bit of a vile predator. I certainly don’t think he has cured his sex addition, that’s for sure. He wouldn’t take no for an answer,” she said. “He always goes that step too far. Never quite far enough to slap his face, but usually too far.”
The TV personality also recalled being told that Brand had been fired from a previous MTV show for “wearing an Osama bin Laden costume to work the day after September 11,” shortly after she had agreed to the interview.
“I couldn't believe that I'd just agreed to be interviewed by someone who would do something like that, it really unnerved me. And then throughout the whole interview, he kept making shocking remarks that I can't even repeat,” she said. “Just uttering the words would make me blush.”
Brand has denied the allegations against him, releasing a video of his own that instead claims he was simply “very, very promiscuous” during that particular time in his life, but insists all of his interactions were consensual.
