KCPD: Victim identified in Smart Avenue and Bales Avenue homicide
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department has reported a homicide near Smart Avenue and Bales Avenue in Kansas City.
KCPD says that just after 4:15 p.m. this afternoon, August 17, officers were called to the 300 block of Maple on a report of shots fired. As they were on their way, officers were notified that the shots were fired into a car that then fled the scene.
Officers were then called to Smart and Bales on a shooting.
Upon arrival, KCPD reports that officers found one shooting victim unresponsive inside the vehicle, and another outside the vehicle.

Officers rendered aid and called for EMS, which pronounced the unresponsive victim dead at the scene and took the other victim to a hospital. This victim is reportedly in stable condition.
KCPD reported on August 18 that the deceased victim has been identified as 22-year-old David C. Cromwell.
KCPD also says that detectives have made progress in identifying subjects of interest, and will begin working with prosecutors to share findings for any charges.
