Kebabs, noodles, broasted chicken: Filipino restaurant to open new Kansas City location

Filipino restaurant Manila Bay Express is expanding with another Kansas City location.

It plans an early September opening at 2000 Main St.

Menu items will include bistek (beef in a citrus and soy sauce marinade sauteed with onions), and bihon (thin noodles with chicken and vegetables).

Entrees will include grilled salmon, beef kebabs, and pancit noodles such as Lechon Kawali with fried pork belly — all with a choice of white rice, garlic fried rice, cauliflower rice or steamed vegetables. It also will have broasted chicken. “My chef has the best fried chicken ever,” said partner Jasmine Thompson.

“We also have a liquor license, can do take out and we have a patio area,” she said. “The streetcar goes by and we have a stop right next to it. It is a corner space near hotels and First Fridays always gets really busy.”

It will serve a Filipino breakfast all day including corned beef with garlic fried rice and an egg. It also will offer catering.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Pirate’s Bone Burgers had formerly occupied the space. The owners couldn’t be reached for comment.

Manila Bay Express was founded in 2014. Norma Thayer owns the location at 6305 Main St. in Grandview and at 1301 Main St. She is partnering with Thompson on the 2000 Main location.
