'Keep our numbers low': Jackson, Mississippi, homicides drop over 60% in February
Jackson's homicides fell more than 60% between January and February, Clarion Ledger reporting shows.
From January to February, the city had a 67% decrease in murders. A total of four people were killed in February, while 12 people were killed in January based on reports from the Jackson Police Department.
Deputy Chief Sequerna Banks said the low February numbers reflect the efforts of the department's A.C.T.I.O.N Unit, put into place by Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, to reduce crime in the city.
The "Anti-Crime Team in Our Neighborhoods" is focused on crime involving guns, gangs and drugs.
"We want to make sure we keep our numbers low," Banks said. "We want to continue to see these low numbers throughout each month and most definitely throughout the year of 2024."
