KENNER, La. (WGNO) — It was an emotional evening at the Kenner City Council on Thursday, as the city voted to name the field at Muss Bertolino Stadium after WGNO’s long-time sports director, Ed Daniels, who passed away last month.

Daniels’ family was there for the unanimous vote. City leaders talked about his contributions to high school sports. His daughter, Erin Daniels Lagarde, told the council that the Daniels family spent a lot of time at Muss Bertolino.

“We are grateful that the city has chosen to honor his contribution to youth sports in such a meaningful way. I know that he would be proud, and we pray that his legacy continues to inspire others to serve their communities and to achieve their greatest dreams,” said Lagarde.

“Ed touched many people. I’ve never heard anyone say a bad thing about him. He had a gift knowing how to make anyone feel special with his actions and his words,” said Kenner City Council Member George Branigan. “I’m honored to have the football field at Muss Bertolino playground named after him.”

The official dedication of “Ed Daniels Field” will be Friday, Oct. 4. The entire WGNO family offers a big “thank you” to the city of Kenner for honoring Daniels.
