GLENWOOD, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kissing Bridge Ski Resort, now under new leadership, is preparing for the upcoming winter season with new upgrades and projects underway. All they need next is the snow.

After several seasons with poor skiing conditions, the future of the resort was uncertain, until Rhett McNulty, the new owner of Kissing Bridge, stepped in. The resort was sold for a total of $1,060,000 in late October.

McNulty, who’s from Southern California, said he was drawn to the resort because of its location to downtown Buffalo and Canada, along with its history in Western New York.

“There’s a huge opportunity to bring this place back to life and keep those memories alive for the community going forward,” he said.

Since taking over, McNulty has invested in snowmaking equipment and upgrades to facilities.

“Our largest priority here is snowmaking,” McNulty said. “We’ve invested in putting snowmaking from Hemlock on the south to World of Your Own towards the north side of the property, and that will cover about 22 runs here and ensure that skiers and snowboarders have some diversity and really high quality snow when they come out to the resort.”

Another goal is to turn the resort into a Four Seasons destination. This past summer was the first time the resort offered mountain biking. McNulty also plans to offer tubing again in a few years.

“Just to see all the improvements already, to know that Kissing Bridge is going to be here — the old Kissing Bridge and the new improved Kissing Bridge,” said Kathy Krzemien, the manager at the resort.

Chris Galvin, the resort’s ski patrol director, helped organize this weekend’s open house and ski swap event.

“It’s our only fundraiser for the year for ski patrol,” Galvin said. “We’re a 100 percent volunteer group and this is the money that pays for the band aids and the things that we need to use for patients.”

From employees to people in the community to Maple the puppy, the resort’s new mascot, Galvin said everyone is looking forward to the upcoming season.

“Very excited about the new season. There’s a new energy,” Galvin said. “New ownership has really brought a lot of great ideas and, you know, that’s something that this area needs.”

“It’s putting one foot in front of the other,” McNulty said. “It’s a big project and I just ask for some patience and support from the community, which I’ve received already, so I’m excited to get a little bit more of it.”
