Krave Restaurant announces it will close. Here's what we know.

NEW BEDFORD — After being open for almost two years, Krave Restaurant and Bar on Acushnet Avenue announced it would be closed, effective immediately, in a Facebook post on Dec. 8.

"It is with a mix of emotions that we share this heartfelt message with our cherished Krave community. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Krave Restaurant and Bar," wrote co-owners Boramy Green and Kerrie Gomes.

"This journey has been incredibly rewarding, thanks in no small part to the unwavering support and loyalty of customers like you. Your patronage has been the heartbeat of Krave, and for that, we extend our deepest gratitude."

After announcing on July 1, 2021, that the restaurant serving bona fide Asian fusion cuisine would be opening in the former Chuck's China Inn, they started serving customers Feb. 9, 2022.

"We want to express our appreciation for the memories shared, the laughter echoing through our walls, and the joyous moments celebrated. Your support has been the cornerstone of our establishment, and we are profoundly grateful for the relationships formed within these walls," the co-owners added in their post.

"As we say goodbye, please know that your presence and support have left an indelible mark on our hearts. We are immensely thankful for the privilege of serving you and being a part of your lives."

Community members respond to closing

"We had a phenomenal experience using them for our past EforAll events and we wish them the best in future endeavors," said Samia Walker, executive director of the SouthCoast program.

Walker said that Krave offered a 'big city' experience with its menu that people would have to travel out of the city to Providence or Boston to experience. "Our community wants it, needs it and deserves it. But they also have to a support it," she said.

"We are excited and looking forward to new creative opportunities to work with them."

"Krave was a perfect place with a mixture of culture but also somewhere that paid homage to the roots of New Bedford’s History," said Britney Ganeto, owner of New B Cleaning, adding that it being in the old Chuck's China felt nostalgic.

"It was an inspiration to see how they were able to create such a momentum, while also giving back to the City."

When Ganeto was putting together the Black Excellence Gala, she said it was a no brainer that they were the establishment they needed to use to cater the event, along with their first networking event.

"It saddens me to see them go and to learn about their struggles to stay afloat. Which makes me reflect on how supportive of a community are we, I hope this isn’t farewell forever and we as a community can pull together to potentially one day see a relaunch," she said.
