A new Kroger supermarket is planned for far southern Jefferson County.

The Cincinnati-based grocer is planning to open at 6803 Beulah Church Road, according to plans filed with the Louisville Metro Government on Monday.

Plans call for an approximate 120,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace, adjoining Kroger Wine & Spirits store and gas station.

An in-store Starbucks location and pharmacy drive-thru are also planned for the site, according to papers filed with Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services.

The site’s developer, Lexington-based Patrick Madden, told the Courier Journal in March he anticipates groundbreaking by Sept. 1 and construction to last one year.

A Kroger spokeswoman declined comment.

The grocery and associated fuel center are part of a nearly 90-acre development set to include residential units, shopping, and eateries.

The Louisville Metro Council approved the rezoning of the property in February. At the time, the specific grocery tenant had not been revealed.

Madden noted roadway improvements tied to the project are set to begin later this year.

This construction includes new public roads that connect the development to existing roads from nearby neighborhoods that dead-end at the currently wooded property.

An extension of Cedar Creek Road from Beulah Church Road through the development site is also planned.

Madden said the overall development, located just south of Interstate 265 near the Highview and Fern Creek areas, is a $100-million project.

The project includes nearly 39,000 square feet of commercial space spread over a few buildings near the grocery, to include shopping, services, and dining, the Courier Journal previously reported.

Fifty lots for single-family homes are also part of the first phase of the development.

A second phase of the overall development would bring 184 townhomes across multiple buildings and three-story apartment buildings with 288 units.
