Lafayette reviews Himbola Manor mold test results

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– The city of Lafayette is reviewing the mold test results from Himbola Manor Apartments.

Residents have complained about mold in their apartments for months.

Following inspections by both HUD and LCG, Himbola was ordered to conduct mold and plumbing tests on the complex. The city is currently reviewing the mold tests.

“Actions must await a determination as to whether the mold has been arrested and dealt with in a proper manner,” said City-Parish Attorney Patrick S. Ottinger. “That’s what the reports will disclose to us, and they are under review right now.”

Ottinger said the city-parish government is “vitally” concerned with the health of tenants whose apartments have been tested for mold.

The plumbing test results were expected last week, according to Himbola representatives in a recent hearing.

“One of the recurring complaints was that water would intrude from one apartment to another. And so, we will have to see the extent to which there’s any problem with the plumbing that would result in flushing a toilet in one apartment that it introduces water to the next apartment,” Ottinger said.

“These are very serious issues. Mold is certainly critically serious, but so is the plumbing. We will just have to see what it states when we do receive those reports,” he continued.

News 10 reached out to Himbola’s attorney Eric Pullen about the reports. He declined to comment and requested that the property manager not be contacted.
