LANSING TWP. — A year after officials approved a site plan for the construction of the area's first Dave & Buster's they have approved a 12-month extension for the Dallas-based restaurant chain's plan.

The original plans for the 22,000-square-foot restaurant, expected to be built near the Eastwood Towne Center, were approved on Oct. 11, 2022. Lansing Township's Board of Trustees voted to extend Dave & Buster's site plan approval on Sept. 26, two weeks before it was set to expire.

It's still unclear when construction of what is expected to be Michigan's fourth Dave & Busters will start or when the restaurant will open. Chris Hamer of Aria Group, the Illinois-based architecture firm working on the project, didn't respond to a message Monday.

"The project has experienced unfortunate delays that are beyond the control of our client, who remains committed to construct the project based on approvals received to date," Hamer said in a Sept. 14 letter to officials requesting the extension.

Lansing Township Planner Brad Beck didn't respond to messages this week, but township Clerk Cortney Lightheart said officials approved the site plan extension for one year.

In May Hamer said work at the roughly 4-acre site at 3200 Preyde Blvd., near the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, would start in July. Construction is expected to take a year, he said.

The building is expected to have seating for up to 220 people with games, an arcade, a full-service restaurant and bar, and parking for more than 170 vehicles.

The company currently operates more than 150 locations in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, according to its website. They currently operate locations in Kentwood, Livonia and Utica.

In January, Beck said officials with Dave & Buster's had been talking with Lansing Township about the possibility of building there on and off for the last five years.
