‘Largest renewable natural gas production plant in the world’ expected in St. John the Baptist Parish
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Toronto-based company is planning to invest $1.35 billion into the production of a renewable natural gas plant and green hydrogen facility in St. John the Baptist Parish.
According to Louisiana Economic Development, the investment will go toward renewable biofuels production facilities at the Port of South Louisiana.

LED officials said Woodland Biofuels, Inc. will use “waste biomass to produce sustainable biofuel used in transportation, heating and electricity generation” at the new facility.
They said the new facility is expected to bring 110 direct new jobs with a more than $90,000 salary and 259 indirect new jobs in the region.

The facility will be located at the Globalplex multimodal facility and include the “largest renewable natural gas production plant in the world, according to the company.”
According to the LED, a study for the site is expected to be finalized in 2025 with the first phase of commercial operations expected to start in 2028.
