Leadership offer marks the latest development in blossoming partnership between Musk, Trump
The connection between two of America's most powerful figures, former President Donald Trump and tech giant Elon Musk, has heated up in the public eye over the past few months.
The latest development came Thursday, when Trump said if he wins another term in November, he would give Musk a leading role of a government efficacy commission he said he would create.
Musk responded to the former president's proposal on X.
"I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises," he said. "No pay, no title, no recognition is needed."
Musk has increasingly used his platform, X, to promote conservative messaging, while his blooming partnership with Trump has also featured a public endorsement and a joint live event. Here are some key events between the two billionaires.
Musk details mission to 'destroy the woke mind virus'
In 2020, Musk's estranged transgender daughter transitioned using gender-affirming care, the tech CEO revealed in a July interview. Musk, who signed off on the procedures, said he was "tricked" into doing so.
"I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that," Musk said in an interview with the Daily Wire. "And we’re making some progress."

Post-assassination attempt endorsement
On July 13, the same day Trump was shot in an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania, Musk officially endorsed him.
Musk was outspoken about the attempted assassination attempt on Trump, calling him a "martyr" and demanding the resignation of Secret Service leadership.

Musk denies donations to Trump campaign
Musk in late July denied a report that he pledged $45 million per month to Trump's campaign.
The Wall Street Journal, citing "people familiar with the manner," reported earlier in July that Musk would be donating $45 million a month to a new super political-action committee backing Trump’s presidential run.
Musk had previously said in March he would not donate to Trump nor Biden.
Live event on X
The pair held a two-hour long event on Musk's social media platform X on Aug. 12.
Musk asked Trump questions and gave no pushback to his answers, while dealing digs at Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.
More: Trump-Elon Musk interview violated campaign finance regulations, Democratic PAC claims
In a statement, End Citizens United, a Democratic PAC, alleged that the interview violated campaign finance laws.
“The Donald Trump-Elon Musk campaign rally hosted on X wasn’t just an incoherent diatribe of lies marred by technical difficulties it was a blatantly illegal corporate contribution to Donald Trump’s campaign,” End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller said. “This brazen corporate contribution undermines campaign finance laws and would set a dangerous precedent for unfettered, direct corporate engagement in campaigns.”
