Is it legal to pop fireworks around Greater New Orleans?
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — What’s a Fourth of July celebration without fireworks?
As many finalize their Fourth of July plans and parties, some people rush to stores to buy fireworks, varying from sparklers to vibrant, multi-colored fountains. Although fireworks are a Fourth of July staple, their use is not always allowed in certain areas.
In order to ensure that everyone has a fun, safe Fourth of July weekend, WGNO has curated a list of parishes where you can, or cannot, use fireworks.
Celebrate the Fourth of July at these Greater New Orleans events
Jefferson Parish
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, residents are not allowed to pop fireworks.
Kenner — The Kenner Police Department reports it’s also illegal in Kenner to pop fireworks.
Gretna — According to the Gretna Police Department, fireworks may be popped, but only on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.
Orleans Parish
According to the New Orleans Fire Department, popping fireworks is illegal in Orleans Parish.
St. Tammany Parish
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, it’s legal to pop fireworks in the parish.
Mandeville — Residents are not allowed to use fireworks. According to the Mandeville Police Department, the only fireworks that are allowed are the ones at the annual “Light Up the Lake” celebration.
Slidell — According to the Slidell Police Department, fireworks are not allowed within city limits.
Plaquemines Parish
Plaquemines Parish residents are allowed to pop fireworks, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

St. Bernard Parish
According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, residents can pop fireworks during Fourth of July weekend. From Tuesday, June 25 through Thursday, July 4, fireworks may be used from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Friday, July 5, residents can use fireworks from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
St. Charles Parish
Residents of St. Charles Parish are allowed to pop fireworks on July 3 and 4. According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, fireworks can only be used from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
St. James Parish
According to officials from the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office, residents are allowed to pop fireworks.

St. John the Baptist Parish
Residents of St. John the Baptist Parish can pop fireworks this Fourth of July weekend, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Tangipahoa Parish residents can use fireworks outside of any city limits, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Terrebonne Parish
According to Sheriff Tim Soignet, residents can pop fireworks from dusk until 10 p.m. on the Fourth of July.
Houma — Fireworks are not allowed.
Washington Parish
Fireworks are legal during the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.
