Throughout history, the world has bore witness to the depths a child will go to protect their mother. Last week a 10-year-old boy, the biological son of Lil Durk, shot his stepfather to protect his biological mother amid a domestic dispute that may have been over custody.

The shooting reportedly took place last Monday (July 1). Surveillance cameras caught the exact moment when Joshua Pippens, the Chicago rapper’s son’s stepfather, argued with his mother. Pippens wore orange, the mother wore purple, and the child wore red. It appeared as though Pippens was attempting to restrain the mother, and that is when Durk’s son took the gun from off of his hip.

He then aimed the gun at Pippens as the argument moved from the sidewalk to the street. As the dispute continued, Durk’s son finally let off one shot and Pippens subsequently fell to the floor. Viewers can hear screams and the sole gunshot from the footage below, and viewer discretion is advised. Pippens wrote about the entire situation and his response via social media while still in his hospital bed.

“As y’all can see I was not the aggressor,” Joshua Pippens wrote on Instagram. He went on to suggest that the 10-year-old boy’s biological mother was encouraging him to take the gun and shoot Pippens. “And y’all also can see how I still had my gun on my hip. He grabbed my gun off my hip following his mom’s lead and tried to shoot me and then actually shot me.”

He continued to place the blame on the child’s mother but also claimed that he still cared for him. “I never in a million years thought a kid I bought 4 wheelers and paid for football leagues and everything would do this but he only knows what mom shows him,” Pippens wrote. “I still love him like he’s mine.” He tripled down on judgment for the mother, writing, “Whatever makes y’all feel better. That’s why I got custody of my kids and she don’t. Y’all so internet think [sic] god it was me that took the shot and not her.”

As for any possible legal action, he will not be taking it even though multiple blood relatives and his other children witnessed the altercation and shooting. “Listen, nobody is going to jail or they would already be there,” Pippens wrote. “I’m doing this for rights over my kids. Call me what y’all want. And on top of that, this was at my momma’s, in front of my momma, granny, and more kids. I pray y’all make it through y’all situation that God gon’ put y’all through for playing with me.”

Lil Durk, who has nine other children, has yet to comment on the shooting. It has been a somewhat active year for “The Voice” as he released two singles, “Went Hollywood For A Year” and “Old Days.” He also appeared on Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s collaborative album Vultures 1, 21 Savage’s American Dream, Moneybagg Yo’s Speak Now, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s Better Off Alone, and Lyrical Lemonade’s compilation All Is Yellow.
